Messianic Forum: Who is Messiah?: Prophecies Fulfilled!

The Tanach reveals the identity of the Messiah in unmistakable terms. There can be no uncertainty when the Scriptures are received and studied seriously and with reverence. God has set down a clear profile of Messiah in His holy Word so that His chosen people should recognize His coming and confidently welcome Him as their Lord and Saviour. There have certainly been many pretenders throughout the ages; but in the light of Scripture, every falsehood is exposed. There can only be one true Messiah from God.

The following is a short list of select messianic prophecies found in the Tanach. Accompanying each prophecy is the correlating fulfillment. These fulfillments clearly reveal that the identity of Messiah is Yeshua of Nazareth. Of course, you must examine the evidence for yourself. However, as believers in Yeshua, we feel that the testimony of the Tanach is unambiguous when taken as a whole. Yeshua Himself, beginning at Moses and all the Prophets, expounded to His followers in all the Scriptures the things concerning Himself. Pray that God would grant you clarity and understanding as you study the messianic prophecies.

Prophecies	Fulfillments
1. Messiah is a Prophet like Moses “I will raise up for them a Prophet like you from their brethren, and will put My words in His mouth, and He shall speak to them all that I command Him. And it shall be that whoever shall not hear My words, which He speaks in My name, I will require it of him.” - Deuteronomy (Devarim) 18:18,19	1. Yeshua is a Prophet like Moses “For Moses truly said to the fathers, ‘The Lord your God will raise up for you a Prophet like me from your brethren. Him you shall hear in all things, whatever He says to you. And it shall be that every soul who will not hear that Prophet shall be utterly destroyed from among the people.’…To you first, God, having raised up His Servant Jesus, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from your iniquities.” - Acts 3:22-26
2. Messiah is an Eternal Davidic King “For unto us a Child is born, unto us a Son is given; and the government will be upon His shoulder.…Of the increase of His government and peace there will be no end, upon the throne of David and over His kingdom, to order it and establish it with judgement and justice from that time forward, even forever.” - Isaiah 9:6,7	2. Yeshua is an Eternal Davidic King “And behold, you will conceive in your womb and bring forth a Son, and shall call His name Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Highest; and the Lord God will give Him the throne of His father David. And He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of His kingdom, there will be no end.” - Luke 1:31-33
3. Messiah is an Eternal Priest “The Lord has sworn and will not relent, ‘You are a Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.’” - Psalm (Tehillim) 110:4	3. Yeshua is an Eternal Priest “This hope we have as an anchor of the soul, both sure and steadfast, and which enters the Presence behind the veil, where the Forerunner has entered for us, even Jesus, having become High Priest forever according to the order of Melchizedek.” - Hebrews 6:19,20
4. Messiah is Divine “Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.” - Isaiah 7:14	4. Yeshua is Divine “Now the birth of Jesus Christ was as follows: After His mother Mary was betrothed to Joseph, before they came together, she was found with child of the Holy Spirit.…So all this was done that it might be fulfilled which was spoken by the Lord through the prophet, saying: ‘Behold, the virgin shall be with child, and bear a Son, and they shall call His name Immanuel,’ which is translated, ‘God with us.’” - Matthew 1:18,22,23
5. Messiah will be Born at Bethlehem “But you, Bethlehem Ephrathah, though you are little among the thousands of Judah, yet out of you shall come forth to Me the One to be Ruler in Israel, whose goings forth are from of old, from everlasting.” - Micah 5:2(1)	5. Yeshua was Born at Bethlehem “Joseph also went up from Galilee, out of the city of Nazareth, into Judea, to the city of David, which is called Bethlehem, because he was of the house and lineage of David, to be registered with Mary, his betrothed wife, who was with child. So it was, that while they were there, the days were completed for her to be delivered. And she brought forth her firstborn Son.…His name was called Jesus.” - Luke 2:4-7,21
6. A Messenger will Herald Messiah “Behold, I send My messenger, and he will prepare the way before Me. And the Lord, whom you seek, will suddenly come to His temple, even the Messenger of the covenant, in whom you delight. Behold, He is coming.” - Malachi 3:1	6. John the Baptist Heralded Yeshua “As it is written in the Prophets: ‘Behold, I send My messenger before Your face, who will prepare Your way before You.’…John came baptizing in the wilderness and preaching a baptism of repentance for the remission of sins.” - Mark 1:2-4
7. Messiah will be Rejected by Men “He is despised and rejected by men, a Man of sorrows and acquainted with grief. And we hid, as it were, our faces from Him; He was despised and we did not esteem Him.” - Isaiah 53:3	7. Yeshua was Rejected by Men “He was in the world, and the world was made through Him, and the world did not know Him. He came to His own, and His own did not receive Him.” - John 1:10,11
8. Messiah will Suffer as Sin-Bearer “He was wounded for our transgressions, He was bruised for our iniquities; the chastisement for our peace was upon Him, and by His stripes we are healed. All we like sheep have gone astray; we have turned, every one, to his own way; and the Lord has laid on Him the iniquity of us all.” - Isaiah 53:5,6	8. Yeshua Suffered as Sin-Bearer “And you, who once were alienated and enemies in your mind by wicked works, yet now He has reconciled in the body of His flesh through death, to present you holy, and blameless, and above reproach in His sight.” - Colossians 1:21,22
9. Messiah will be Forsaken by God “My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me? Why are You so far from helping Me, and from the words of My groaning?” - Psalm (Tehillim) 22:1(2)	9. Yeshua was Forsaken by God “Jesus cried out with a loud voice, saying, ‘Eli, Eli, lama sabachthani?’ that is, ‘My God, My God, why have You forsaken Me?’” - Matthew 27:46
10. Messiah will be Nailed to a Cross “I am poured out like water, and all My bones are out of joint.…For dogs have surrounded Me; the congregation of the wicked has enclosed Me. They pierced My hands and My feet.” - Psalm (Tehillim) 22:14,16(15,17)	10. Yeshua was Nailed to a Cross “And when they had come to the place called Calvary, there they crucified Him…And the people stood looking on. But even the rulers with them sneered, saying, ‘He saved others; let Him save Himself if He is the Christ, the chosen of God.’” - Luke 23:33,35
11. Messiah will be Buried in a Rich Tomb “And they made His grave with the wicked – but with the rich at His death.” - Isaiah 53:9	11. Yeshua was Buried in a Rich Tomb “Now when evening had come, there came a rich man from Arimathea, named Joseph, who himself had also become a disciple of Jesus. This man went to Pilate and asked for the body of Jesus.…When Joseph had taken the body, he wrapped it in a clean linen cloth, and laid it in his new tomb.” - Matthew 27:57-60
12. Messiah will be Raised from Death “For You will not leave my soul in Sheol, nor will You allow Your Holy One to see corruption.” - Psalm (Tehillim) 16:10	12. Yeshua was Raised from Death “Do not be alarmed. You seek Jesus of Nazareth, who was crucified. He is risen! He is not here. See the place where they laid Him.” - Mark 16:6
